Picture Shows Lauren Masterman with Midsummer at York Art Gallery

The first solo exhibition since his death in 1893 of artist Albert Moore, a leader of the aesthetic movement who prioritised mood, colour harmony and beauty of form over subject matter to create Ôart for artÕs sakeÕ, opens at York Art Gallery. York-born Moore was one of 14 siblings, many of whom also became artists. A partnership with the Museums De Buitenplaats, Netherlands, the exhibition features the beautiful and classical women for which the artist is most famous while demonstrating the progressive style which made him a significant forefather of British abstract art.
